Two men have appeared in court charged in connection with the discovery yesterday of approximately 2.5 million cigarettes at Inniskeen, Co. Monaghan.
The men, who are believed to be from the North were charged with offences in relation to evasion of Excise duties under Section 119 of the Finance Act, 2001 and Section 10A of the Finance Act 1997.
They were remanded in custody with consent to bail.
Gardaí and Customs officers uncovered the operation with the aid of Dutch Police authorities.

The men are to appear before Dundalk District Court this evening.
A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to a third man who is a resident of the State.
