Two men are being questioned by gardaí after a pipe-bomb was found in a car outside Waterford city.

Two men are being questioned by gardaí after a pipe-bomb was found in a car outside Waterford city.

The men were arrested during an operation targeting dissident republicans on Friday night.

Their car was stopped and searched on the N25 to Dungarvan at 11.10pm and the device was found.

It was later made safe by an Army bomb disposal team.

The scene was declared safe at 3.50am and the device was removed for further examination.

The men are being held at Waterford Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences against the State Act.
