Two men are still being questioned by gardaí this afternoon in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in north Dublin last night.

Raymond Collins (42) was killed in a gun attack carried out by two men on a motorbike at the junction of Clonliffe Road and Ballybough Road shortly before 5pm yesterday evening.

Gardaí believe he was shot several times with a handgun by one of the men on the motorbike.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A post mortem will be carried out today on Mr Collins's body.

Mr Collins was the 18th fatal shooting so far this year bringing the total for 2006 close to the record 21 firearms homicides recorded last year.

Two men are still being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act which allows them to be held for up to 72 hours. A Garda spokesman asid they are being questioned in relation to the incident.

The scene of teh fatal shooting has been sealed off for officers from the Garda Technical Bureau to examine the area.

Gardaí are still trying to establish a motive for the shooting have appealed for anyone with information to contact them at Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station.
