A 19-year-old woman and a man in his 80s have died in separate road crashes.

The woman died after the car she was driving hit a ditch in Co Galway last night.

The incident happened at 10.20pm at Tonamaddy near Creggs in the east of the county.

The woman, who was alone in the car at the time, was taken to University Hospital Galway where she later died from her injuries.

The road is closed for a forensic examination.

Gardaí are asking anyone who was in the Tonamaddy, Cleggs, area yesterday evening, between 10pm and 11pm to contact them at Ballinasloe Garda Station on 090 9631890.

The man died when his car crashed on the N7 at Pintown, Roscrea on the old Limerick Road at 4.45pm this afternoon. He was the sole occupant of the car. He was pronounced dead at Portlaoise General Hospital.
