Two men are being questioned by gardaí tonight following a shooting in north Dublin.

Two men are being questioned by gardaí tonight following a shooting in north Dublin.

A 41-year-old man was shot several times on Cardiffsbridge Road in Finglas just before midday.

A Garda spokesman said the victim was shot once with a handgun as he sat in a car outside a bookmakers and again while trying to escape through a garden.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where is condition is described as critical but stable.

Two men, both aged 20, were arrested shortly after the shooting. They are being held at Blanchardstown and Finglas Garda Stations under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Gardaí carried out a number of searches across the city this afternoon. A van believed to have been used in the attack was recovered and removed for examination.
