Perugia - An Italian woman yesterday gave birth to a girl 18 days after the baby's twin sister was born dangerously premature, doctors said. "It's the first time, at least in Italy, that we've managed to keep one of the twins in the uterus to prevent them both being born too early," Dr Gian Carlo Di Renzo said.

The second baby was delivered by Caesarean section and weighed 1.7lb. The first baby's condition has improved, according to Dr Di Renzo.
