Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai and 11 other members of his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) have been arrested and are being held at a police station, the MDC said on today.

The party said in a statement he was arrested at a road block with his campaign team. Mr Tsvangirai, who has been detained several times over the past week, is contesting a run-off vote against President Robert Mugabe on June 27th.

Zimbabwe's High Court adjourned earlier today after police failed to bring MDC secretary-general Tendai Biti to court, his lawyer said.

According to defence lawyer Lewis Uriri, police said they did not believe a previous order to bring him to court was from the High Court, and the case was adjourned to consider the way forward.

Mr Biti is facing a treason charge after his arrest on Thursday.
