Lisbon - The government of the West African state of Guinea-Bissau and rebels seeking to overthrow it signed a ceasefire yesterday and agreed to open talks aimed at ending a 50-day civil war. The truce was called to allow formal peace talks between the government of President Joao Vieira and rebels to begin within 10 days.
