THE Ulster Unionist leader, Mr David Trimble, has indicated he would use Labour's plans for Scottish devolution to press for a Northern Ireland assembly if Mr Tony Blair wins the British election.
Mr Trimble, in an interview for New Statesman magazine, said he believed the Labour leader had "the right instincts" on Northern Ireland.
"I will want to talk to Tony Blair as early as possible but what I see in this parliament, which will be largely concerned with constitutional issues, is an opportunity to put the case for an assembly in Northern Ireland," he said.
