The Special Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday fixed October 9th for the trial of a man on an IRA membership charge who was at the centre of a failed attempt to extradite him to Britain.

Mr Anthony Duncan (26), unemployed and from Kippure Park in Finglas, Dublin, is charged with IRA membership on April 12th. Duncan was arrested in Dublin in April and was brought to the Dublin District Court on an extradition warrant.

But the application failed after the State admitted the documentation was "fundamentally flawed" and Duncan was freed before his rearrest.

He was remanded in custody until his trial.
