A number of Travellers have been ordered by the High Court to leave lands owned by a construction company at Portmarnock, Co Dublin.

Mr Justice Lavan granted the order to Astondale Construction Ltd. It obliges the Travellers to remove themselves, their caravans and other motor vehicles from the company's lands at Station Road.

In an affidavit, Mr Michael Murphy, company director and secretary, said the lands were the site of a former factory which had been demolished.

Because of the demolition, the lands contained dangers and traps which rendered them unsuitable for occupation by anybody other than those entering to make the dangers and traps safe.

The company intended at the earliest opportunity to make the lands safe and to carry out works in pursuance of an intended development.

Mr Murphy said the defendants had refused to cease the trespass notwithstanding requests to do so. Trespass would significantly prejudice the rights of the company as lawful owner of the lands to carry out its works and development.
