Toshiba and Fujitsu have reached a basic agreement to jointly develop advanced system chips, core parts for digital home electronics and automobile equipment, the Nihon Keizai Shimbunreported, without citing sources.

Under the plan, Toshiba's technology for system chips for image processing and Fujitsu's technology for internet-access equipment and other communications devices will be integrated, the report said.

The two companies hope to take the initiative in the market for advanced system chips for use in internet-compatible digital home electronics and audiovisual equipment.

Toshiba and Fujitsu may integrate their system LSI operations in the future, the report added.
