Some of the country's top young Garda graduates will be honoured today for their achievements at Templemore College.

Some of the country's top young Garda graduates will be honoured today for their achievements at Templemore College.

As 84 gardaí celebrate the completion of their training, three officers were picked out for their outstanding efforts at the school.

The Commissioner's Medal, awarded to the student achieving the highest aggregate marks in academic subjects, was won by Garda Johanna Connolly from Glenamaddy, Co Galway. She will be stationed at Letterkenny Garda Station.

Garda Pauline Glennon from Leixlip, Co Kildare, was awarded the Gary Sheehan Memorial Medal, commemorating a Garda recruit who was killed on duty in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, in December, 1983.

It is awarded to the best all-round student.

The Templemore Town Council Medal, for outstanding achievement and appreciation in the area of Social Science Studies, was presented to Garda Pauline Sheehan from Brosna, Co Kerry; she will be stationed at Shankill Garda Station, Dublin.

The passing out today will be watched by Minister for Justice Michael McDowell.
