The Dublin City Coroner has said it was almost impossible to find words to express sympathy with the families of those who had taken their own lives, but he hoped they would find the strength to come to terms with their terrible loss. Dr Brian Farrell was commenting after hearing inquests yesterday into deaths where three people.

He returned verdicts of suicide on a 44-year-old man who hanged himself in the attic of his home, and on a 24-year-old man who died of carbonmonoxide poisoning in his car having attached a hose to the exhaust pipe and fed it into the car.

He returned an open verdict on a 41-year-old woman who died due to an overdose of paracetamol because, he said, he could not be certain she had taken her life intentionally.
