Three men have been remanded in custody after being charged with possession of a single-barrel shotgun, four shotgun cartridges and a semi-automatic pistol.

The three suspects were among five men detained when three firearms were found in two cars stopped by gardaí at Kill, Co Kildare, during a planned operation in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Judge Desmond Zaidan at Athy District Court yesterday remanded the men in custody to appear again next Tuesday.

The men, two aged 35 and one aged 29, have addresses in Blanchardstown, west Dublin. All were granted legal aid. One of the men applied for bail but was denied it.
