Gardai are questioning three people about an incident in north Co Dublin yesterday in which a 16-year-old boy was critically injured after being shot in an attack near his home in Swords.

A boy (16), a man and a woman - both in their 30s - are in custody over the shooting, which gardaí believe may have been a case of mistaken identity.

The victim was shot at close range as he walked with three friends in St Cronin's Close estate towards nearby River Valley Park.

The youth was wounded twice in the upper body and was taken to Beaumont Hospital.

Gardaí are investigating the possibility that his attacker was looking for another boy with whom he had earlier been in dispute over damage to a motorbike.
