Three bodies discovered in Wicklow house

The bodies of three people thought to be from the same family have been found in a house in Co Wicklow today.

Gardai have sealed off the property in Grangecon, Co Wicklow, following the discovery made this morning.

Local sources have identified the deceased as John Joe Slater and his wife Mary who were both in their 80s and their son Patrick, who was a well-known metalworker. Patrick was in his forties. Their bodies have been removed from the scene and The State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy will carry out postmortems tomorrow.

Gardai have also taken two legally held firearms from the house.

Gardai at Naas Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. "There is no further information available at the moment," said a garda spokesman.

Grangecon is a small village of about 200 people, situated halfway between Baltinglass and Dunlavin in West Wicklow.
