Thousands of people are expected to take to the streets of Washington today in protest at US President George W Bush’s so-called war on terror.

Four separate marches will also protest against the Israeli actions in the West Bank and at the meeting of the world's finance ministers, gathered in Washington for meetings of the IMF and World Bank.

The marches will eventually converge near the Capitol.

A weekend of protest began yesterday and will end on Monday. Police arrested 40 protesters yesterday, who were part of a cyclists' anti-war protest, the Washington Postreported.
