Ian Thorpe reclaimed the
world 200-metre freestyle record at the Australian swimming championships, clocking one minute 44.69 seconds on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old triple Olympic gold medallist bettered the previous record of 1:45.35 set by Dutchman Pieter van den Hoogenband at last year's Sydney Olympics.
Thorpe's latest world record comes just a day after he smashed Kieren Perkins' world 800m freestyle record in 7:41.59 at the national titles.
