Ten Russian seafarers on the Jamaican-registered Merchant Brilliant, now outside Heysham, England have been paid €72,000 in arrears by their employers ADG Ship management.

On Monday night, the Russian crew of the ship barricaded themselves into a section of the ship along with two International Transport Federation (ITF) inspectors, Ken Fleming and Bill Anderson, over wages arrears of €150,000.

In a statement this evening the International Transport Inspector Ken Fleming of SIPTU claimed seven crew members has relinquished their claim to the arrears "due because of pressure from management".

The crewmembers who have received payment this evening will leave the vessel shortly with Mr Fleming and his ITF colleague Bill Anderson of the RMT union.
