Two other people were injured in the accident which took place in Coleraine.

The 17-year-old was the driver of a white Vauxhall which collided with a lorry on the Boleran Road in the town. His death increased the toll on Northern Ireland's roads so far this year to 104.

A female passenger in the car was admitted to hospital with injuries which police said were not thought to be life threatening.

The lorry driver was treated for shock.

Elsewhere a 39-year-old female pedestrian was injured when she was struck by a car on the Belmont Road in Antrim.

The PSNI said she was admitted to hospital suffering from serious injuries.

The woman driver of the car was also taken to hospital suffering from shock.
