A teacher has asked the High Court for orders jailing the editors and some other staff of two daily newspapers for alleged contempt over the publication of articles that, he alleges, are inaccurate, untrue and prejudicial to him.

Patrick Kelly (33) of Deansrath Avenue, Clondalkin, Dublin, has brought motions seeking to jail Irish TimesEditor Kevin O'Sullivan; Irish TimesLegal Affairs Editor Carol Coulter; Irish Independenteditor Gerry O'Regan; Michael Denieffe, managing editor of Independent Newspapers Ireland; and Irish Independentlegal editor Dearbhail McDonald.

Mr Kelly argues he is entitled to orders jailing the respondents and seizing the assets of the newspapers. He submitted that the articles complained of had prejudiced a previous case. Counsel for the respondents have denied contempt and Mr Justice John Hedigan will rule on the matter today.
