A national-school teacher who indecently assaulted a female pupil in a west Dublin school in 1982 has been jailed for four years by Mr Justice O Caoimh at the Central Criminal Court.
The judge agreed following separate applications by prosecuting and defence counsel that the identity of the defendant should not be published. There was loud applause from the public gallery when sentence was imposed.
The 45-year-old man was convicted by a jury on the fourth day of the trial in April of indecently assaulting the victim on two occasions in 1982. He had pleaded not guilty to both charges.
