Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz has praised the efforts of US humanitarian organisations towards Iraq in a meeting with former US attorney general Ramsey Clark.
"We express our consideration to the American humanitarian organisations for their efforts in favour of law and justice," Aziz said to Clark, who arrived in Baghdad yesterday aboard a Royal Jordanian plane, with some 50 US activists opposed to the embargo against Iraq.
The INA news agency quoted Clark as having "expressed to Aziz his admiration for the resistance of the Iraqi people and its leadership to the unjust embargo."
Clark has been to Iraq several times since the Gulf crisis of 1990-1991 and has always condemned the embargo as "a serious violation of human rights and a genocide."
