Talks are to be held at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) tomorrow over the bus dispute in Galway.

Bus Éireann services were hit by a two-day lightning strike started by 100 drivers based at Galway Bus Station.

The unofficial stoppage, which affected around 5,000 would-be passengers on city, rural and Expressway buses, was sparked by a dispute involving members of the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU).

Only a small number of city buses, manned by SIPTU-affiliated staff, were operating.

The NBRU staff called the strike on Tuesday morning after negotiations with Bus Éireann broke down the previous night on the filling of four vacancies at the bus station and the status of the Galway-to-London bus service.

The strike was called off last night after the intervention of the Minister for Transport, Mr Cullen. The Minister said he wanted to see a "speedy resolution" of the dispute.

All City and Expressway services in Galway are running normally today.
