Northern Ireland swimmer Andrew Bree excelled in the pool to set a new Irish 200-metres breaststroke record at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester today.

The 21-year-old from Newtownards in County Down slashed Gary O’Toole’s 13-year record by over half a second, swimming in a time of 2 minutes 15.25 seconds.

O’Toole’s previous record of 2 minutes 15.77 stood from when he won the silver medal at the European Championships in Bonn in Germany in 1989.
