A Swede of Tunisian origin suspected of planning a hijack will appeal against the order detaining him while police investigate the case, his lawyer said today.
Mr Kerim Sadok Chatty was arrested when a gun was found in his luggage as he boarded a London-bound plane on Thursday, two weeks before the anniversary of the September 11th suicide attacks in the United States.

"My client should not be detained on serious suspicion of planning a hijack," defence lawyer Mr Nils Uggla told reporters.
"I will appeal against the detention order. I have just received the documents and will lodge the appeal tonight," said Uggla, who met Mr Chatty for 90 minutes yesterday.
Mr Chatty, a Swedish citizen aged 29, denies planning a hijack or any terrorist offences, but admits illegally owning a gun.
A court ordered him to be detained for two weeks on Monday as investigators try to find out why he tried to take the gun onto a Ryanair flight at Vasteras, a small town near Stockholm.
Chief Prosecutor Mr Thomas Haggstrom said in a statement Mr Chatty would be interrogated further and other people who could shed light on the case would also be questioned. A prosecutors' spokesman said Mr Chatty was not due to be questioned today.
