A former clerk in the Chief State Solicitor's (CSS) office who defrauded the State of more than £18,000 in legal fees has received a three-year suspended sentence from Judge Elizabeth Dunne at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Timothy O'Neill (43), Rivervalley Estate, Swords, pleaded guilty to six counts of forgery with intent to defraud between February 2nd, 1996 and July 7th, 1998. A total of 72 other counts were taken into consideration.

Insp Pat Collins, of the National Bureau of Fraud Investigation told Mr Brendan Grehan, prosecuting, that O'Neill was the principal legal clerk in the office of the CSS and he defrauded the office of fees to be paid to barristers and solicitors.
