Indonesia's Attorney-General said today he would press ahead with a civil case against former president Suharto despite his the ill health of the accused.

"The civil case process is still going on. The Attorney-General's Office has been given the mandate by the government for this case and Mr Suharto has given his lawyers the mandate to handle this," Mr Hendarman Supandji said.

"Although Suharto is sick, his lawyer is continuing on this case."

Some politicians had suggested that legal proceedings against Mr Suharto should be dropped,

The 86-year-old former general was rushed to hospital in critical condition last week.

Mr Suharto was admitted to Jakarta's Pertamina hospital on Friday suffering from anaemia and low blood pressure due to heart, lung and kidney problems. But doctors said today that his health has started to improve.
