Strange tired of waiting

For United States captain Curtis Strange, the Ryder Cup cannot start soon enough.

For United States captain Curtis Strange, the Ryder Cup cannot start soon enough.

The biennial competition has already been delayed by 12 months following last year's attacks on the United States, and two more practice days remain before the event begins with fourball matches on Friday morning.

"This is what Sam (Torrance) and I have waited a year for," Strange told a news conference at The Belfry today after his players had completed their only mandatory 18 holes of practice.

"Things are done and Sam and I are ready to go. But it's tough to sit on the sidelines.

"We had the team photocalls this morning and I'm certainly getting anxious - it's getting closer. I'm ready to go today."

Twice U.S. Open winner Strange, captaining a Ryder Cup team for the first time, believes his preparations for the three days of competition are complete, although he has made adjustments to his pairings.

"It was pretty much made up earlier in the week," he said of his first pairings. "But I have adjusted. Not from their play but I have adjusted yes. I'd be crazy not to be flexible.
