A Co Cork toddler who was born without arms or legs has spent Christmas in a state-of-the-art house tailored to her needs, which was made possible by the £800,000 raised in a nation-wide appeal. Some weeks ago Joanne O'Riordan, aged three, her parents, Joe and Ann, her brothers Denis, Danny and Stephen, and her sister, Gillian, were able to move into the purpose-built bungalow in Millstreet, which cost £250,000 to build. Joanne, who has been fitted with replacement limbs, has a condition known as total amelia, a rare disability which affects only one in 10 million children.
