Eighteen members of the Building and Allied Trades’ Union (Batu), which represents construction workers, occupied the union’s head office at Blessington Street in Dublin this evening to demand the resignation of its leadership.

The members say they have 'no confidence' in current management, claiming the union's General Secretary and others pass a picket line of striking union staff daily.

Some staff at Batu's Dublin office have been on strike for nearly five months after two of its members were made redundant.

The members are also claiming there is a lack of transparency concerning the union's finances.

Those occupying the building say they will not leave until management resign
