Seven people from a Spanish theatre group were killed and 11 injured today when a bus carrying 20 people ran off the highway and crashed down an embankment, officials said.
The group had been returning to Madrid from a performance in provincial Spain when the crash occurred near Avila, about 120 km (75 miles) northeast of Madrid, a spokeswoman for the central government in Avila said.
Of the 11 hospitalised, four were in serious condition, she said. State radio reported 14 injured.
The group was identified as the Fundacion del Teatro Lirico (Lyrical Theatre Foundation).
