The Minister for Defence, Mr Smith, is visiting Irish troops stationed in Sarajevo, Bosnia, from today until Saturday, accompanied by the Secretary General of his department, Mr David O'Callaghan, and the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieut Gen David Stapleton.

As well as the 50 Irish troops serving with Sfor, (Stabilisation Force), the Minister will meet members of the Garda Siochana serving with the UN International Police Task Force. Irish troops have been taking part in Sfor since June 1997.
