Since the Lotto competition began, £12 million has been won in Skibbereen. The latest win, which netted a jackpot of £1.6 million, brought to nine the number of wins in the west Cork town.
The Centra foodstore in Skibbereen sold the winning ticket but its proprietor said he had no idea who had bought it. He added that Skibbereen had a reputation of being the luckiest Lotto town in Ireland - so lucky, in fact, that people drove for miles just to buy their tickets in the town.
