Six injured in Drogheda explosion

Six people were injured - two seriously - in an explosion at a house in Drogheda, in Co Louth, this afternoon.

Six people were injured - two seriously - in an explosion at a house in Drogheda, in Co Louth, this afternoon.

Two houses were demolished, a Garda spokesman said.

It is not known at this stage what caused the explosion, in the town's Cherrybrook housing estate, but gardaí believe it may have been a gas leak.

The injured, two men, two women and two young children, were later said to be in a stable condition in a Drogheda hospital.

A number of homes nearby were also damaged and other houses in the area were evacuated as a precaution.
