Gardaí investigating the murder of a man (26) shot on a busy Sligo street in April have arrested six people.

Hughie McGinley, of Connaughton Road, Sligo, was shot in the head in front of his partner and their four-month-old son as he sat in a parked van in Grattan Street in the town on the afternoon of April 28th last.

The three men and three women - all from the Sligo area -were arrested this morning. The six, who range in age from 19 to 27, are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at various Garda Stations in the Sligo/Leitrim Garda division.

Mr McGinley was shot by the pillion passenger of a motor cycle that pulled up opposite his Hiace van on the shopping street.

There has been speculation the murder was linked to a feud between two Sligo families.
