Rome - Italian police said yesterday they had smashed a child sex ring based in Rome whose members are charged with raping, abusing and forcing into prostitution more than 90 children, some as young as nine.

Six people, including two former policemen, were arrested and four were placed under investigation as part of the nine-month operation, police said in a statement.
