A protest by SIPTU taxi-drivers over conditions and compensation for deregulation  that was due  scheduled to take place in Dublin tomorrow morning has deferred.

The drivers had intended to stop work between 8.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m. to highlight what they said was the  lack of progress in their campaign for a fair deal for taxi drivers.

But they decided this evening to postpone the protest after progress between SIPTU and the Department of Transport in the dispute over the break up of Aer Rianta.

SIPTU's airport workers have called off a two-hour protest at Dublin, Cork and Shannon tomorrow.

SITPU's National Industrial Secretary, Mr Michael Halpenny said he would be seeking a meeting with the Minister for Transport, Mr Brennan, "to try to progress outstanding issues in relation to taxi-drivers in a similar atmosphere of constructive engagement".
