Shots were fired at a supermarket owned by Britain's Tesco Plc in the Thai capital early today in the second attack on a Tesco store this week, police said.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at around 3 a.m. (8 p.m. Thursday Irish time) at a Tesco Lotus superstore in an eastern suburb of Bangkok.
A police officer quoted a security guard as saying an unidentified gunman fired several rounds from an automatic weapon at the store before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.
The shots hit the wall of the low-rise building and an entrance barrier. Nine bullet casings from an automatic rifle were found near the scene, he said.
Police declined to speculate on the motive of the attack.
On Wednesday, another branch of Tesco Lotus was the target of an anti-tank missile, which hit a nearby office building, local police said. That incident might have been the result of a business dispute, they said.
Officials at Tesco Lotus were unavailable for immediate comment.
A number of Tesco Lotus supermarkets in Bangkok and in the Thai provinces have been attacked since July.
