A care worker who denies sexually abusing his foster sons told gardai he was trained in St Joseph's, Kilkenny, and worked also in homes and hostels in Drogheda, Dublin and Cork. On the fourth day of the 50-year-old married man's trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court the jury was told of his arrest in Dublin on March 24th, 1995. The man denies 115 charges of buggery, gross indecency and indecent assault of his two foster sons during the 1980s.

Det Sgt Michael Carroll said that he and Det Garda James Hanley arrested the accused man early in the morning and took him to a nearby Garda station. The man was interviewed by gardai from Kilkenny while detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1964.

Det-Sgt Carroll agreed with prosecuting counsel, Mr Denis Vaughan Buckley SC, that he showed a box of 16 video tapes to the two alleged victims and recorded their comments on them.

Witness agreed with defence counsel, Mr Tony Hunt, that most of the conversation he and Det Garda Hanley had with the accused man was of a general nature.
