Gardaí are still questioning seven men arrested as part of an investigation into terrorist activity in the Cork area.
Four of the men were arrested last night after a prolonged investigation targetting serious crime and terrorist activity. A number of items were also seized during the operation which involved local gardai in Cork along with national units.
It is understood gardaí are investigating the possibility that dissident republicans may have been planning to kidnap a man in the Cork area with the intention of extorting money to fund their activities.
As part of a follow up operation two further arrests were made. A seventh man was held late last night and is detained at Henry Street Garda Station.
The others are detained at Gurranabraher, Togher, Mayfield and The Bridewell Garda Stations. The men range in ages from their 20's to their 50's.
The men are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
