Sarajevo - A former Bosnian Serb paramilitary commander and police chief was shot dead late on Wednesday in the eastern town of Bijeljina, the latest gangland-style killing in the volatile Balkan region.
Police in the town near Yugoslavia said yesterday that unknown attackers fired at Ljubisa Savic "Mauzer" in his car at around 9 p.m. and then sped off.
Savic was commander of the feared Panthers paramilitary unit in the 1992-95 war and served as chief of the Bosnian Serb uniformed police after the conflict.
