Sentence on two men and a woman involved in a drugs case has been deferred at Belfast Crown Court to allow the judge to consider lengthy defence submissions.

The three face sentence in relation to the smuggling £300,000 worth of cannabis into Northern Ireland from Spain over a year ago. The drugs were discovered when police searched a car in the lower Ormeau Road, Belfast, on December 17th 1994. The cannabis was concealed in the car's petrol tank.

David Addis (26) and his common law wife Margaret Black (28), from Joanmount Gardens, Belfast, pleaded guilty last week to smuggling and possessing the drugs with intent to supply.

On Tuesday, Patrick Joseph O'Neill of Royal Mews, Dunmurry, was convicted of possession with intent. Another man, Christopher "Sid" Johnston, who was also found at the scene and later charged with the same offences, was shot dead four months ago.
