Senegal midfielder Salif Diao will join Liverpool on a five-year contract after his French first division club Sedan finally agreed terms on a deal today.

Diao was part of the successful Senegal side who last week exited the World Cup at the quarter-final stage. He will join Liverpool in December for €7.5 million.

The 25-year-old Diao, who has double Franco-Senegalese nationality, arrived at Sedan in July 2000 from then French champions Monaco with whom he had spent four seasons.

He has played 75 first division matches and five games in European competition. International teammate El Hadji Diouf was snapped up by Liverpool only two weeks ago.
