Washington - Two influential US senators have said they flatly opposed a release for Jonathan Pollard, who was convicted of spying for Israel, while the Pentagon said it also wanted him to remain jailed.

Pollard, a former US navy intelligence analyst, has served 13 years of a life term for spying for Israel, but Israel has repeatedly requested his release, notably at the Wye River peace summit.
