Members of the security forces in Belfast escaped injury after a pipe bomb was thrown at them, Northern police have said.
The attack came during a confrontation between rival gangs in a sectarian flashpoint area of the city last night.
Police and army were called at around 7 p.m. to Limestone Road in north Belfast to separate rival nationalist and loyalist gangs.
After they succeeded in keeping the rival crowds apart, a pipe bomb was thrown at them but no-one was injured.
A number of items have been recovered from the area.
The incident occurred 24 hours after clashes in the nearby Duncairn Gardens area of the city.
Nine police officers were injured in subsequent disturbances in the North Queen Street area as nationalists attacked police and army vehicles.
One police officer sustained a leg injury and a soldier also suffered a broken nose.
