The Police (Northern Ireland) Bill received its second reading in the House of Lords last night as the British government declared that it remained "open to persuasion" and was "prepared to consider constructive changes" to the Bill. Lord Falconer of Thoroton reiterated the government's "commitment and determination" to create a new era of policing in Northern Ireland.
