The 1996 European of the Year Award was initiated yesterday by the outgoing chairman of the European Movement, Mr Alan Dukes.
The award is made to Irish people who contribute to the social, cultural and overall welfare of Europeans.
Nominations for the award are available from the European Movement and must be returned before December 31st.
