Police investigating the disappearance of two schoolboys nearly 27 years ago have begun searching the interiors of two Belfast houses.

Extensive examinations of 50 and 56 Rodney Drive "from the roof downwards, necessitating the lifting of floorboards" began yesterday, according to a police spokesperson.

Kitchen extensions, built since Thomas Spence (11) and John Rodgers (13) went missing on their way to school in 1974, and the backyards of the two terraced houses are continuing to be excavated.
